A couple weeks ago, Toby Carvery got in touch and kindly invited me to take part in its Manic Mumday campaign, which challenged mums to take some time out of their hectic schedule and enjoy a family meal, on the house! It would have been rude to say ‘no’.
The timing was perfect actually, as it coincided with the last week of school, which can get pretty crazy. It would be lovely to have a night off cooking, I thought. But what we didn’t bank on was two-year-old Wolfy being unwell, which as any mum knows, is generally a recipe for disaster when going out for a family meal!
Luckily there is a Toby Carvery just five minutes drive from our home in Bournemouth, but for no particular reason, we’d never been before. It’s always nice trying out somewhere new, and on arrival it looked beautifully festive. The children were delighted to see crackers on our table!
Our waitress was amazing, and clearly very comfortable with children, including those of the poorly and grumpy sort. She asked Wolfy what he would like to drink, and I was stunned when he piped up “squash, please”. He’s never allowed squash at home, so that went some way towards cheering him up.
If like us, you have never visited a Toby Carvery, it’s important that you enjoy a good ole fashioned Sunday roast, on any day of the week. Of course we do…what isn’t there to like about that?! You will also be pleasantly surprised at the prices. I think you’d be extremely hard pushed to find somewhere else as nice to eat as a family, where you can each enjoy a generously portioned hot meal, for such a good price. If your child is under three years, you can even request a separate plate for them, pile your plate high with food, and share.
Highlights of the meal for the children were the gigantic Yorkshire puddings and sausages. I was exceedingly happy with my choice of roast beef, which was cooked to perfection and beautifully tender. My husband was equally very happy with his honey roast gammon. There was a wide selections of potatoes and vegetables to choose from, and all were freshly cooked and continually being replenished. It was just a shame I had a snotty, moaning boy clinging to me while I tried to serve mine up!
The puddings were just as well priced, and Wolfy perked up for a little bit to enjoy his gigantic ice cream sundae.
I now understand why Toby Carvery is so popular with some of my friends. It’s the perfect relaxed environment for taking young children, and it’s the sort of food I’d cook at home, but without having to lift a finger!
Little I enjoyed her meal so much, she has continually been asking me when we can go back. I have a feeling it will be soon, when we’re sick of Christmas leftovers!
If you’d like to give it a go too this Christmas, here is a unique QR code to take with you, which will entitle you to a free ice cream sundae. Enjoy!
Thank you Toby Carvery!
