I have a wonderful quick, easy recipe to share with you for some delicious chocolate treats, which you won’t feel guilty about eating. What’s more, they make a nutritious snack for your little one, and they are great fun to make together. Yesterday I made a batch of them for Little I and her friend and they were devoured in seconds.
Ingredients:
1 ¼ cups ground almonds
3 tbsp of Agave syrup
¼ cup Green & Blacks cocoa powder
2-3 tbsp coconut oil (the solid kind)
Method:
Heat everything until melted and then spoon into chocolate moulds if you have them, or ice trays. Freeze for about 10 minutes and then pop them out. They are best kept cool.
Some of the ingredients you may be unfamiliar with, so here is a quick note about them.
Coconut oil can be used as an alternative to olive oil, or any other cooking oil, and can be used to aid fat loss. It is abundant in medium chain fatty acids which are great for those with a sluggish metabolism. According to one study which looked at the effects of these fatty acids on metabolism, it was found that just one dose of coconut oil could increase metabolism by 48 per cent and for up to 24 hours.
Agave syrup is a natural sweetener, produced in South Africa and Mexico from several species of agave plant. It has a much lower glycemic index and glycemic load than table sugar.
Green & Blacks cocoa powder is a really high-quality, organic cocoa, and so one that I’d recommend using.
Coconut oil and Agave syrup can be bought from most large supermarkets, or from health food shops.
I must credit this recipe to my bootcamp friend Jeantene, who is a keen pâtissier.
If you have a go making these, please let me know what you and your little ones think of them!
